These boxes are one of the most fun projects I have done.  My friend was once Miss Norfolk back in the early 1970s.  For several years after that she remained very active with the Miss Norfolk pageant and, as a result, developed some very strong friendships with some of the other people who became Miss Norfolk.

Each one of them went on to the Miss Virginia pageant and one of them, I think, went on to the Miss America pageant.  They have continued their friendships over the years and get together every so often. For Christmas this year, my friend wants to give each of them one of our keepsake memory boxes.

Each box is decorated in the color of the gown that each of them wore at the Miss Norfolk pageant and at the Miss Virginia pageant. They each also have a replica of the Miss America crown depicted on the top of the box.

It was a bit of a challenge to figure out exactly how to do that, but once I did, it was just such great fun putting it all together. I used metallic paint, chalk paint, color-coordinated felt lining, and a picture of the Miss America crown. I then covered the picture in brilliant rhinestones that just sparkle in the light.

A great project!!
